What is the home directory?
Your home directory, usually /home/yourname, is where your documents, downloads, pictures and settings live. The shortcut ~ stands for it.
Why it matters when you use a bootable USB drive
Keeping /home on its own partition makes it easier to reinstall without losing files. Back it up before you install.
