What is the Linux kernel?
The kernel is the core of the operating system. It talks to your hardware and manages memory, processes and drivers.
Why it matters when you use a bootable USB drive
Newer kernels support newer hardware. If your Wi-Fi or graphics card is not working on a live USB drive, a distribution with a newer kernel may help.
